Paris. June 2015

Our first holiday since travelling, we decided to spend our 3 year anniversary in Paris. A short flight and sketchy train later we arrived at New Hotel Roblin and were thrilled to be upgraded to the penthouse! This was an enormous room with the most comfortable bed and a huge balcony with a lovely view of the city.

Keen to explore we headed out and down the River Seine, we wandered for a while but it was super hot so we soon stopped for pizza and beer right on the river bank. We then made our way to the Eiffel Tower and as we had pre-booked tickets we managed to avoid the massive queues. Not for the faint hearted the views are epic and we enjoyed an over priced glass of fizz watching the world go by underneath us.

We caught the metro back to the hotel and made the most of our balcony with a bottle of fizz. We had reservations that evening at a steak restaurant but made the fatal mistake of a quick ‘nap’ and woke up the next morning, oops.

After breakfast at the hotel we headed out to the Louvre, what a place this is, you could be in there all day and not see it all, it’s so varied too. We pottered around for a couple of hours admiring the art, including the famous Mona Lisa, which was smaller than I expected! Back along the river we stopped for a carafe of wine and a classic French baguette before visiting the Notre Dame, another truly amazing building.

We made our way back to the hotel to get ready and after enjoying a cocktail in the bar, we set off to find a local restaurant for dinner. I’m not sure if it was the area or just me being fussy but we did struggle and our meal was fairly average which was a shame as we’d missed dinner the night before. Afterwards we stumbled on a live music bar which was fun.

On our last day Dan popped next door for coffee and croissants, bringing them back to the room bless him, again the balcony coming in handy! The skies were a little grey as we headed up to Sacré-Cœur, and to be honest we were shattered, I think we’d walked about 20 miles that weekend so we had a look around and then made our way back down into the city via The Moulin Rouge, which is in a rather unsavoury neighbourhood so probably not worth a visit unless you’re seeing a show, which I would love to do next time.

And then it was time to leave for the airport, a whistle stop tour but a lovely weekend and I’m sure we will return, with some decent restaurant recommendations!
