Santorini. August 2017

Dreamt of going here for a while and it did not disappoint. We chose to stay in Imerovigli in the middle of the island at On The Rocks hotel, one of the many white washed buildings built in the side of the cliff around the once volcano, prime location for the famous sunsets! The second half of the week we even treated ourselves to an upgrade with a private pool which was brilliant, a lot of the rooms have hot tubs which if I was going again I would go for as it can get a little chilly in the evening so the idea of a glass of fizz in a hot tub while you admire the views is very appealing. We went to few restaurants near our hotel, the best being La Maison which had a gorgeous view of the sunset and delicious food, we also made friends with an eccentric older American couple who were hilarious.

We ventured down to Thera which is a little busier with a bit more of a party atmosphere but we were glad to be able to retreat as it was a little on the tacky side. We also trekked all the way to the Oia at the other end of the island for the ultimate sunset view and a traditional Gyros which was extremely tasty. Glad we did it but again glad we could head back because the number of tourists here was super intense, although nothing compared to the chaos that is the tiny little airport!

This is a beautiful island, great food, stunning views and a delightful climate, it’s a winner for us.
