Maldives. March 2018

Maldives. The Indian Ocean. Bucket list destination. A long way from home. There are so many islands to choose from but 90% of them were way out of our budget, so that helped narrow it down. We ended up going for 10 days of all-inclusive indulgence on Atmosphere Kanifushi.

Our first view was from the Sea Plane, which Dan loved, I was pretty happy when we landed. The hotel covers a fairly long and thin island, one side with the wide pristine white beach you expect and the other more rugged, perfect for watching the waves from one of the handy swing seats. There’s no need for a day by day on this one, I fear it would be rather dull but safe to say it was 10 glorious days of moving from beach, to pool, to bar, to restaurant and many Pina Colada’s.

The food was really good, we had a choice of three restaurants, one of which was oriental vegetarian and set over the water which was fun as you could watch the crabs scampering around the rocks and sting rays lapping up into the shallows. The staff in the restaurants were just so lovely and always greeted us with a beaming smile. The weather was boiling even in March and the humidity is intense but the free flowing cocktails do help cool you down, and the sunsets in the evening were simply stunning. We avoided the evening entertainment but did visit the shisha bar a couple of times. We managed a few activities, tennis, yoga and even bike rides, although they were really just to get to one of the watering holes. We had a very relaxing couples massage in the open air spa one evening, no soundtrack required as the waves were lapping just a few feet away. We also went fishing and did few snorkelling trips on which we saw a plethora of tropical fish plus one fairly epic speedboat ride where we came across a huge pod of spinner dolphins playing in the ocean, so nice to watch them just having fun. Afterwards we went snorkelling with turtles and reef SHARKS!

A brilliant holiday, now on to the next adventure!
