Menorca. June 2024

An early flight meant we’d picked up the car and arrived at Santó Tomàs by midday, this is a small resort on the southern coast of Menorca. We had some lunch at one of the beach bars and a wander around to get the lay of the land before checking in to our hotel, Villa Le Blanc. This is a super nice joint, very chilled vibe and our room was lovely with a balcony looking over the pool and out to sea. The rest of the day was spent by the pool and we walked along the local beach before dinner at the hotel featuring a gorgeous view of the sunset.

The next morning was a lazy one and then we set out to Mahón on the East of the island, this is the capitol and the largest natural harbour in the Med! We had a delicious seafood lunch at El Rais before pottering around the city, stopping for some gelato and to admire the endless yachts. We also stopped at Es Castell which is another smaller harbour nearby and then drove to Binibeca village which is a picturesque collection of white washed houses but the locals make it pretty clear they don’t want tourists there so it has a slightly odd vibe! We finished with a sundowner at Bambu before heading home and hitting the hay.

In the morning we set off on a coastal walk west of the hotel, the first 20min to Platja Binigaus was an easy stroll and this is a lovely golden sand beach. The second 45min was a full on ramble to Cala Escorxada which is a beautiful cove but it’s a pebble beach (and popular with nudists) so we didn’t stay too long! Once back at Santo Tomas we stopped for lunch at Chiringuito es Bruc which hangs over the sea before going back to the pool to relex for the afternoon. Dinner was a nice if slightly chaotic pizza at the hotel.

Cala Escorxada

Tuesday was 100% chill with dinner 10min up the road at Ca Na Pilar which Dan had found in the Michelin guide so it was pretty fancy but very tasty. Wednesday late afternoon we ventured out to Cala en Brut which is popular cliff jumping spot. The water was very choppy but Dan decided to throw himself off one of the platforms anyway! Next was Ciutadella which is the old town on the West of the island and lovely, some gorgeous buildings and quaint streets. Dinner was Nonna Bazaar just outside Ciutadella and this was a delightful evening, it’s an old farmhouse, the garden setting and food were great, highly recommend!

The next day we set off early in search of more beaches, first up was Cala Mitjana which is a lovely white sand cove but was full of seaweed which was rather pungent, so we carried on round the corner to Cala Mitjaneta which is smaller cove and surrounded by cliffs but has stunning crystal clear, sparkling waters. After admiring the views and enjoying a swim we walked 20min to Cala Galdana, this is the main beach resort and although very busy it’s still a really nice beach so we stopped for a quick picnic lunch. There are lots of other beaches on the south coast you can visit but the lack of coastal roads makes it a bit of a faff so we decided to head home.

Dinner was back to Chiringuito es Bruc and a walk along the boardwalk to admire another glorious sunset.

Last day! Another pool day with an interlude at lunch to Binifadet vineyard, this was another idyllic setting and the food was excellent! We spent the rest of the afternoon at the rooftop pool catching the last of the rays.

So that was Menorca, a very relaxing holiday and nice to stay in one place for the whole week for a change, although I do think we managed to see a lot of what the island has to offer! Glorious weather and lots of good food, just what we needed.
