Our first family holiday! Louis James is 6 months old and it’s our first big trip, along with Dan’s parents. Flying from Leeds with a quite frankly unbelievable amount of stuff, Louis was thankfully a very good boy on the flight and after an extremely sweaty airport / transfer experience we arrived at our apartment late afternoon. We were staying in Puerto Pollença which is in the northern part of the island just round from Alcudia. This really is the most perfect family resort, at one end there’s a lovely wide sandy beach and as you reach the port a plethora of nice bars and restaurants, then the pine walk which is a path along the seafront shaded with pine trees and dotted with mini beaches and terraces over the water, the whole place surrounded by hills, delightful.

The first night we just got everything set up and had a few drinks and nibbles on the terrace before setting out to explore the next day. We walked pretty much the full length of the resort, stopping for a beer at hotel Daina and then a delicious late lunch in the pretty courtyard at Moll de Bellagio. By the time we got home everyone was shattered so it was an early night!

The next day we went for brunch on the seafront then chilled at the pool, Louis floating around on his little inflatable chair bless him! We had a sundowner at one of the beach bars and went for dinner at Swing just near our hotel where I had Mallorcan cod and the rest of the Ibbos had a rustic paella, bit of a milestone as it was our first evening meal out together since Louis was born (even if I did leave early because he wouldn’t go to sleep).

Friday was another pool day before late afternoon getting a taxi to the old town of Pollensa 20min away. This is super nice and we had a drink on the main square before a look in the church and climbing the 365 steps for a view over the town. Dinner was Restaurante La Fonda in one of the quaint streets and this was a gorgeous meal.

Saturday was more of the same with an interlude at the beach bar for some outstanding nachos but that evening after Louis went to bed, David and Elaine stayed home so Dan and I could go out for some food which was a real treat, nice to do something as a couple again, of course we talked mainly about Louis.

Sunday was baby’s first boat trip! We caught the ferry from the port round to Formentor beach, it’s only 25 min but it was rather choppy! This beach is gorgeous, it could have been the Caribbean, beautiful sand and turquoise water surrounded by lush green hills. We picked a spot on the beach and Louis had his first dip in the sea, which he tolerated more than enjoyed to be fair. After lunch at the beach restaurant we pottered along the beach and had a drink at the wine bar serving wine from a local vineyard, and far too soon it was time to get the boat back. We then had a drink at the port and Dan and I grabbed a quick bite on the pine walk before getting Louis home to bed, little guy was shattered but such a lovely day.

Last full day was spent by the pool with some fizz on the terrace to celebrate before heading out for dinner at C’an Josep. This was at the quieter end of the resort with gorgeous sea views and the food was so good, a perfect end because sadly it was time to head home in the morning. We would absolutely come back here, it’s got everything you need for a family holiday, super safe and clean. Yes the feeding issues were a little restrictive and it took a while to relax and get into holiday mode but Louis coped so well especially given he was teething and I’m so glad we came, memories we will cherish for a lifetime.
